Every year February 14th is celebrated on Valentine's Day ... believed to be the day of lovers.
But really what Valentine's Day??
This event is named after the Christian saint and martyr Saint Valentine in Terni.
from the fourth century BC The Romans used to practice a fertility rite in honor of the god Lupercus. Every year men and women, who worshiped the god, placed their names in special elections, after which a child raffled two of these names to form the couple who have lived in intimacy for a year. This ritual was repeated once every twelve months.
The predecessors of the Church and were opposed to the ritual and the god Lupercus also wanted to replace God with this Valentine the martyr. Pope Gelasius I decided that the day would be February 14 Valentine's Day.
Today this festival is an opportunity to exchange thoughts through letters of love and heart-shaped cards that usually have a symbol Cupid. Moreover, it is usually exchange gifts during the anniversary, in order to establish the relationship of the couple.
